Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The last key inspection of the service was carried out on 18/3/09. This is the first Annual Service Review for 8 Queensview Crescent. We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection of the home. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was generally clear and gave us the information we asked for, although more details on what improvements and plans they are going to make would have been useful. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA told us about improvements made to the service in the past year and indicated good progress had been made in implementing the requirements and recommendations we previously made. We were told new support plans and risk assessments have been introduced with more details for staff on how best to support people using the service. The AQAA told us The new format for the support plans and written style has promoted more independence and learning new skills. The Aqaa told us that new staff rotas have been developed to enable people using the service to do more of the things they like and that more activities have been implemented with further plans for these to be developed. We were told more training has been provided to staff and that there are plans for this Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 to be developed to help staff communicate better with people living in the home and to help them deliver more person centred care. The AQAA told us Staff have attended a workshop to enable them to See things from the eyes of a person with a disability We were told however the service is in need of internal redecoration and that more Health Action plans are needed to be developed. There have been no concerns, complaints and protection issues in the service this year and we were told the service has introduced a new complaints form to make it easier to use. Comments from people using the service and those with an interest in the home were generally positive. A professional told us the Service delivers care very well, It is person centred and covers health care extremely well whilst a relative told us They are a very caring set of people, I do not think they could do anything better than they do . Another however indicated communication with parents could be further improved and that there is a Need for a Personal Development Programme for people using the service and that the home needs To take patients out in community more. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 17th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
