We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the manager. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The proprietor returned the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) which gave us all the information we asked for. It gave clear evidence of how the home has improved since the last inspection which was carried out on 9th March 2009. There were two requirements issued at the last inspection. To introduce a formal Quality Assurance process, and feedback to the people who use the service, and to register a manager for the service. Since the last inspection, one of the proprietors has taken over the role as manager. Each resident is assessed on their care, mental health and social needs before admission, by the senior nurse and are invited to discuss their individual needs when their plan of care is written and reveiwed, either by themselves or with a representative who could be a family member or an advocate. The home has written documentation to enable residents or their relative to make up their own mind before moving in to ensure that the staff have their best interests at heart. The people living in the home have always told us that they are comfortable and happy there. The proprietors have always offered sociable activities and occasional outings, and external entertainers continue to visit residents. Meal times are staggered over two sittings for both lunch and tea time with a varied selection of wholesome nutritious meals. The proprietor informed us that all complaints and concerns are taken seriously and acted upon although, no complaints or concerns have been made in the past year. There has been one adult protection issue that the proprietor have dealt with satisfactorily and kept CQC informed. The staffing levels remain constant, with some staff having worked at the home for several years and they show that they increase their numbers of staff when this is required during periods of activity and weekend cover. There is always a nurse in charge on each shift. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 The proprietor continues to let us know at CQC (Care Quality Commission) about things that happen at the home to ensure they manage their issues well. Both proprietors continue to visit the home on a daily basis. Our judgement resulting in the information showed that the home continues to provide a good service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection within three years of the last inspection carried out on 9.3.2009. However, we can inspect at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
