What did we do for this annual service review? This annual service review included a review of information that the Commission has received about the service since the last inspection in March 2009. We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last Inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment form that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people who use the service. It also gave us information about the actions being taken or planned to improve the service. We also looked at the information we have about how the service manages any complaints and what the service has told us about things that have happened since the last inspection including formal notifications as required under regulation 37 of the Care Homes Regulations 2001. We have spoken to two members of staff on telephone. The findings of the last inspection and relevant information we have received from other organisations have also been considered in this annual service review. What has this told us about the service? We have received a completed annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) from the home. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home continues to provide a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We are satisfied to read in the AQAA that the home arranges monthly meetings for relatives and residents to enable them to share their views about the quality of the service. We feel that the home meets the needs of the people it supports through ongoing assessments and reviews of care plans. The AQAA reassures us that new residents are assessed before admission and person centred care planning is implemented for the residents. Our last inspection showed to us that the residents and their families are involved in the assessments. We also noted at our last visit that the home actively seeks the views of the residents when planning and providing activities. We talked to the staff and learned that there are enough of them on duty to provide care that the people need. The AQAA and our last inspection confirm that there are training opportunities for the staff. We understand from the AQAA that the manager has had training in dementia care and she is passionate about making improvement for dementia service. We have received a number of formal notifications from the home during the last year. This shows that the home has a good system of record keeping as well as being open about accidents and incidents. We believe that the home takes necessary steps to reduce incidents and accidents through its risk assessment and management systems. Our dealings with the home and information we receive from other people have showed to us that the home manages complaints well. From the information we have about the home, we are not currently concerned about the quality of the service and the wellbeing of the residents. We believe that the manager is competent and committed to provide good quality care in a safe environment. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review?
