A visit was made to this home on May 13th 2010. We found that the staff are fully committed in supporting the residents to lead purposeful lives and to become more independent. The service has an extensive admission process that takes place over a period of time to allow both the staff and the prospective residents to make an informed decision about moving into the home. The care plans we looked at were based on this thorough admission process and referred to all areas of assessed needs and behaviour of sometimes very complex cases: they were person centered and informative and we noted evidence of evaluation and changes made when needs have altered. The care plans contained risk assessments in relation to known behaviour and trips out. We spoke with one resident who told us that they liked living in the home and felt that they had definitely improved since they started living at Argyll House. They also told us the staff are nice and supportive and went on to tell us the cook helps me when I cook for myself one day a week. This resident told us about all the activities they are involved with and we noted that they are all recorded in plans of care. We looked at the administration of medicines for this resident and checked the records for medicines that had been given; we noted that for two days there were gaps on the record charts and it had not been made clear which days a certain medicine had not been given, the staff had also failed to use the coding on the medicine record chart as to why medication had not been given. We have made a requirement in relation to the administration of medicines.
