What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included the annual quality assurance assessment, AQAA, that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service returned the AQAA. It gave us all the information we asked for. Surveys were returned by 3 staff and 8 residents. Some of the residents were given help by their relatives to complete the form. Residents said that they received enough information about the home to help them decide if it was the right place for them to move into. Surveys show that residents consider that they get the care and support they need and that medical care is arranged when needed. One relative commented, I would like to say that the level of care is excellent. Staff are always friendly and really approachable. Residents say that staff are available when needed and that staff listen and act on what residents say. Staff said that there are enough staff to meet residents needs although one person said that this is only sometimes the case. Staff confirmed that they are given up to date information about care needs. The AQAA and surveys confirm that activities are provided for residents. One person commented that he/she would like to be taken out and a staff member said the service could be improved if staff had more time to speak to residents. Residents confirmed that they like the meals provided by the home. Surveys confirm that someone is available to speak to on an informal basis if they are not happy and that residents are aware of the complaints procedure. There have been no complaints in the last 12 months. Staff say that they receive relevant training which helps them meet residents needs and that they receive support from the manager. The AQAA and a staff survey state that areas of decor and facilities could be improved, Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 especially the kitchen. One staff member said that a self closing device for bedroom doors would be a help to those who like to keep their bedroom doors open. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 17/09/2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
