What the care home does well

The service provided a homely and pleasant environment. Residents and visitors stated that they liked the relaxed atmosphere, and there was praise for the approach of the manager and the staff. There have been positive developments with training, including the delivery of dementia care training. Residents reported that they liked the food service.

What the care home could do better:

The service needs to continue upon its objective to improve the care planning. Although the new care planning system was more comprehensive and streamlined, our findings at this inspection indicated the need for on-going rigorous auditing of the clinical assessments and subsequent documentation. Significant improvements were noted with the medication management, hence the pharmacist inspector has deleted the immediate requirement issued in October 2008. However, areas for improvement have been advised by the pharmacist and are recorded in the main part of this report. The issue of carefully verifying references has not yet been met by the service. We have accepted that there has been a strong emphasis upon staff training, activities and other improvements since the last key inspection and upon that basis we will re-check recruitment at the next inspection. The Commission`s expectations have been clearly defined to the service.
