Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? We did this annual service review on 5 June 2009. The last key inspection was done on 24th and 30th June 2008. We looked at all the information we have received or asked for since our last visit. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. These include relatives and healthcare professionals. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the home. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. What has this told us about the service? From the last inspection report - what the home does well: Staff interact well with people and the resident group socialises well with each other. Staff support people with developing their independent living skills and encourage them to participate in the local community. There is an expectation from staff that they spend their free time with people living at the home. Relatives state that the surroundings have improved and people live in a homely environment. People living at the home speak highly about the staff and the care they provide. All seven people living at the home filled in our Have Your Say surveys for this Annual Service Review. Comments confirm that the above statement still stands. Everyone said that staff always treat them well and listen and act on what they say. Comments included: I am happy here, happy here and: I like to stay here for the rest of my life. I am very happy there. One healthcare professional also filled in a survey. S/he commented on what the home does well: They attend appropriately to patients with problems and when asked to attend. I have limited contact with the home as all seems well there. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA ) that we ask homes to fill in and send to us once a year was last received in July 2008 after the last inspection. Information in the AQAA showed that the manager was working towards meeting the four requirements made at the last inspection. In particular: care plans have been developed in more detail regarding the support given to residents. The manager also commented: The manager is aiming to meet all required standards to the best of her capabilities. A new AQAA will be sent out in July 2009 for the manager to fill in and return to us. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Regular notifications about events that affect people in the home are sent in and show that people are kept safe and cared for properly. A complaint had been received just before we did this review. The manager was asked to investigate the allegations made. The manager was aware of the concerns and had already taken action. From all the above we believe the home still gives people that live there a good quality of care from properly trained staff and by an experienced registered manager. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 30 June 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of care given or the safety of people living at the home. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
