CQC found this care home to be providing an Excellent service.

The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection and there were no outstanding actions from the previous inspection report.

What the care home does well

The home is in a quiet residential area, yet near to the town centre. A visitor commented that the home had a very good reputation in the village area. People are cared for in a clean and comfortable environment and the home is decorated to a good standard. All people spoken with made positive comments about the care they received; one said it was a good place to get you in good shape for returning home and a visitor said that his relative had enjoyed her stay and would be returning for another short break. The staff group is well trained and knowledgeable about the people living at the home and how they prefer to be cared for. The manager and senior staff work well as a team and there is a very stable staff group, enabling good knowledge of the needs of people. People are encouraged to make choices about their daily lifestyles and individual likes and dislikes are catered for. Surveys returned to us were very positive and comments included praise for the staff and the manager.

What the care home could do better:

We found no issues of concern on the day of the visit. Where there are issues, the manager and the Local Authority work to address them quickly.

It is registered to provide personal care for up to 22 older people and 3 people who have needs associated with physical disabilities. The home is a purpose built property, opened in 1963 and was originally designed to care for up to 44 long-term residents. It currently provides care to people who need short-term or regular periods of respite care. It also provides intermediate care for up to eight people. Accommodation for residents is provided on the ground and first floor, which is accessed by stairs or a lift. The intermediate care bedrooms are all located on the ground floor, with the exception of a room that is used for wheelchair users. There is a separate kitchen, which is used to assist residents rehabilitation if needed. In addition on the first floor there is a day centre, which provides day care for up to eight people on a daily basis. Day care is not currently registered or inspected by the Commission. The home is located in a residential area of the Fenland town of Spalding, which has a range of facilities and services. Copies of inspection reports are maintained in the entrance to the home for service users and members of the public. The range of fees at the last inspection was up to £450 per week. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: The quality rating for this service is three star. This means the people who use this service experience excellent quality outcomes. This was an unannounced visit which formed a random inspection visit lasting approximately two hours and we took into account previous information held by us including the previous inspection report, their service history and records of any incidents that we had been notified of since the last inspection. During this visit we talked to the people to obtain their views about whether they felt their needs were being met and about their quality of life. We also spoke to staff to learn their views about how they felt their training and development needs were being met. We also spoke with the manager to learn of any changes which have taken place and if there were any risks to the people living in the home. Comments from the people were all positive and included, They have done everything they can to help me get back on my feet, They are all friendly and helpful and My family and friends are always offered a drink and everyone is so friendly and how lovely it smells. Comments from staff included, We provide good dementia care, we not only support families but all relatives as well and We are a strong and dedicated team. We spoke to four people who use the service, two visitors and three members of staff. The manager was on duty and feedback was given about the outcomes at the end of the visit.
