This random inspection was carried out over a three hour period to monitor the progress made since the last key inspection. During the inspection we, the Commission, were able to speak with the deputy manager, talk with people living and working at the home and view a small sample of records. What the care home does well: What they could do better:
During the inspection two staff files were viewed. The deputy manager stated that some staff begin induction training before they have been checked against the Protection Of Vulnerable Adults (POVA) register. The recruitment files do not give clear details of when the new member of staff begins working with people living at the home. There was no evidence that a POVA check had been carried out in one staff file seen. Two care plans were also viewed. They both contained personal information about the individual, including lifestyle, likes and dislikes. However in both files care needs had Care Homes for Older People
Page 4 of 8 not been updated to reflect changes in need. For instance one persons appetite had deteriorated and food and fluid charts were being maintained. There was no care plan setting out the amount of food or fluid that the person required or what to do if an adequate amount was not consumed. The food and fluid charts did not contain daily totals and therefore is was difficult to see if the person was receiving an adequate diet. The tissue viability assessment had not been amended to reflect the persons changing need.
