Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information received and asked for, since the last key inspection on 23rd May 2007. This included: 1 The Annual Quality Assurance Review (AQAA) completed by the Care Manager, including a self assessment on how well outcomes have been met and numerical information about the service. 2 Any complaints we have and information we have about how the service has managed concerns, complaints and allegations. 3 Information received through notifications of things that have happened in the service in the past 12 months. 4 The previous Key Inspection report from 23rd May 2007, and the previous Annual Service Review from 19th June 2008, the results of any other visits we have made in the last 12 months. 5 Relevant information from other organisations. 6 What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment AQAA was well completed and returned to us on time. It provided us with clear evidence of how the service operates, and how it has performed. We looked at the information in the AQAA and of that received, and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service, and that they know what further improvements can be made. The AQAA told us The service continues to be highly respected within the community and the surrounding areas, the Deputy Manager and Senior Carers continue to carry out random medication checks to ensure that all staff involved are following policies and procedures. All staff are currently completing Bereavement training. The Deputy Manager has attended a course in regard to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguarding. Staff have completed POVA training in April 2009. Mental Capacity Act Assessment Checklist has been introduced as part of the admission procedure. We are to take part again in the Stoke on Trent, Dignity in Care challenge award for 2009. To maintain peoples interests in gardening a few of our residents have sown tomato seeds in a small portable greenhouse, when grown into plants, they are going to plant them out into the garden. Weve introduced a board game of the TV game show Family Fortunes, this has been proving enjoyable for people. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We have introduced hand massage using creams which has theraputic benefits for people. Our service user and relative questionnaires give us very positive feedback about our service. We continue to listen to our service users comments and always act upon them. We pride ourselves on retention of staff, several of our staff have been with us for more than 10 years. We undertake a robust recruitment process which includes CRB and POVA checks, references and employment history. All staff receive induction training and regular updates. Our policies and procedures manual has been updated and reviewed. At the time of this report surveys are awaited from the people who use the service. Previous surveys have been consistent in their praise of the home, the staff, and the care they receive. We were kept informed about important events, including incidents and accidents that have happened since the last inspection. The home is managed in a way that shows it has the interests of the people who use the service as the focus of activity. During this period there had been no referrals made to Social Services under the Protection of Vulnerable Adults/Safeguarding protocol, and no complaints received by the home, and or the Care Quality Commission (CQC). At the last inspection the standard of service was judged to be excellent. There were no requirements and no recommendations made. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We think the quality of the service has been maintained since the last key inspection. We will do a Key Inspection before 30th June 2010, to review our assessment of the Care Home. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service, or the safety of the people using the service.
