Date of last inspection Brief description of the care home 12 12 This is a well established home for people with learning disabilities and / or mental health problems. It is located in the Aylestone area of the city and is on a main bus route. The homes accommodation is over three floors, the first floor being accessible by a stair lift. There are two double and eight single rooms. One of the double rooms is located on the ground floor and there is also a ground floor bathroom. A large lounge is situated on the ground floor as well as a small sitting area where people may smoke. There is also a small lounge on the first floor. The dining room is located near to the kitchen. People who live at Venetia House are encouraged to use the kitchen to make snacks and drinks with the appropriate support of staff. Fee levels at the time of the last inspection ranged from £297 to £398 per week. People who use the service had received a copy of a guide, which contained information about the home. This random inspection looked at whether requirements made at the time of the last key inspection - relating to the Statement of Purpose & Service User Guide and the recruitment & training of staff - had been met. We found that the Statement of Purpose has been modified to reflect the categories of care provided. Records indicate that pre-employment checks have been completed for new members of staff. The registered manager stated that she has tried to locate formal training on mental disorder and learning disabilities but without success. She reported that a community psychiatric nurse had provided some training on issues associated with mental health and that staff had received in house training on learning disabilities. She stated that she continues to look for more structured training courses on these issues.
