Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. We looked at any notices that were received under Regulation 37; these are the details of illness, death, injury or any other event in the care home that affects peoples well being. We asked the manager to complete an annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) form. This form is for the manager to carry out a self-assessment of how well the outcomes of people using their services are being met. We sent questionnaires to people who use the service, their relatives, and staff and health and social care professionals to enable us to obtain their views on how well the home is run. We looked at the report that was written as a result of the homes last key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us the homes annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it and it was clear and gave us all of the information that we asked for. The manager said in his AQAA all service user care plans, risk assessments, health action plans and mental capacity assessments have been rigorously reviewed and are now working documents that are updated continually. We have increased activities and introduced day trips that take place every week which are formulated around activities that the service users enjoy. We have improved our menus to allow a wider choice of meals and service users are encouraged to take refreshment when they choose. We received many positive comments from people using the service, their relatives and the homes staff and they included the manager has been excellent and has kept me informed from day one and people are always clean and well dressed and the staff always give a top quality service where people are encouraged to socialise and participate in a full life. One health and social care professional said in their survey staff treat the people using the service with respect and dignity and they show an interest in the persons health issues, they ask advice and they seem to follow it. One staff member said in their survey we provide excellent care and give people using the service choices, they all have access to the community that they live in and the care plans are very good. The last key inspection took place on 21/06/2007 and the service was rated as a two stars good service; an annual service review took place on 25/04/2008. The last report showed that the people living in Pickwick Close benefit from a well developed careplanning system. It stated that they are supported to make decisions about their lives and to take risks within their capacity to understand and that people living in the home benefit from a competent staff team. The report also showed that the health and safety of individuals living and working in the home was promoted and protected. After looking at the AQAA, the last inspection report, the last annual service review and Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 all of the other evidence we feel that the manager knows what improvements he needs to make and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 21/06/2010. However we can inspect at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it.
