At this Random Inspection on 01/05/09 we met with Simon Ewington who is the Assistant Manager, members of staff and three people who lived in the home. We were pleased to see that progress had been made and action had been taken to address the requirements made at the key inspection of 09/02/09. Mr Ewington has commenced an appropriate Leadership and Management qualification programme. Mr Ewington had contacted Care Focus and had received visits from two of their staff. he had found these visits very helpful. The basis of a sound management system had begun. Appropriate contacts and required information had been accessed. There are plans to revise the medication system in line with current best practice. A Boots system will be commenced om 01/06/09. The staff will receive appropriate training and support from the same company. The revised complaints procedure was seen. A Quality Assurance system has commenced and will be further developed. Mr Ewington has written to relatives of people in the home informing them of changes to the home management. There is a staff structure diagram displayed showing key staff and their roles. Staff files have been reviewed and organised. Whilst no requirements have been removed at this Random Inspection it should be noted that action has been taken to address most of them. What the care home does well:
Mr Ewington had taken prompt action since the last random inspection. He has organised training for himself in managing a safeguarding incident and providing staff supervision. Staff spoken to in the home were enthusiastic about the planned training opportunities. Safeguarding Adults training has been accessed for staff in the form of computer based learning programmes. The computer and organisation of training was seen. Further training is planned using the same format. At the next inspection the response of the staff who have undertaken this will be assessed. Minutes of a full staff meeting held on 21/04/09 were clear and comprehensive. There are plans to meet monthly to keep staff informed of the progress and changes to be made in the home.
