We found some evidence of improvement in the handling of medicines in that records of the receipt and disposal of medicines were accurately kept. However, when we examined peoples medication charts we found some unexplained gaps in the records of administration, and the number of tablets in stock did not correspond with the administration record in three instances. There was no up-to -date list of the initials of staff who give medicines. We found that the home routinely carries out stock checks of its controlled drugs. The amount of liquid medicines is checked by eye but not poured into a measure. We found that the room in which medicines are stored was very warm, and we noticed particles in some liquid medicines that should be clear. We were shown policies on medicines prepared by the company that owns the home, but the home did not have its own policy describing how medicines are managed.
