What the care home does well

We have identified that there were some positive strengths at the service. For example, we sought clarification regarding why staff had made certain clinical judgements within the care plans and risk assessments and found that some good, individualised work was being undertaken. There were examples of staff that naturally interacted very well with residents and supported people to feel valued. There were a limited number of residents in a position to speak in an in-depth manner regarding the quality of the service; however, the people (residents and visitors) were predominantly complimentary about the care home. The presence of a new management team presented a receptive response to the issues raised and had formulated plans for improvement.

What the care home could do better:

The main body of this report has identified several areas for improvement including care planning, delivery of care, medication practices, daily managerial monitoring of the service, improvement of the environment and the food service. Via our discussions with the management staff, we were informed that one of the plans was to develop the present staff group to work in a more independent way. We felt that the good examples of staff practice observed at this inspection indicated that with the new input of an appropriate management style and support, this was an achievable objective.
