CSCI found this care home to be providing an Good service.

The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection and there were no outstanding actions from the previous inspection report.

What the care home does well

Good progress is being made with providing residents with enough care and support to be rehabilitated back into the community to live independently. There is a philosophy of involvement, encouraging residents to make decisions in their daily and future living requirements and to be involved in the running of the home. There is a varied programme of activities if people wish to become involved. There is a good level of staff training.

What the care home could do better:

Discussion must take place with the registration department of the regulatory authority,CSCI, to take advice and ensure suitable management arrangements are in place for the running of the home.

It is also very close to the Northumbrian coast and the nearby countryside. It is registered to provide personal care to seven adults under the age of sixty- five years with mental health problems, past or present. The home does not Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 2 of 7 provide nursing care. All bedrooms are for single occupancy. A passenger lift is not available. There is large lounge and a separate dining room that is also used as a quiet area when meals are not being served. Both living rooms overlook a well - maintained garden to the front of the building. There are two bathrooms over the two floors of the house. There is also a self -contained flat for the use of residents preparing for independent living. The resource also provides an outreach service supporting people who may be living independently within the community but who may require a level of support. A Statement of Purpose and service user guide are available for prospective residents and their relatives to give them information about the services provided by the home and the relevant charges. Fees payable for living at the home at the time of inspection in May 2007 are #720.82 and are currently under review. Additional charges are payable for personal newspapers, toiletries, hairdressing and outings. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 7 What we found: The premises were comfortable and there was a good standard of hygiene.A roster was in place for cleaning the home. As the emphasis of the home is upon rehabilitation, residents were responsible for cleaning some areas with the support of staff. A programme of decoration and refurbishment was in place and some areas of the home had been redecorated.The hallway,dining room and kitchen had been redecorated and the entrance looked more welcoming, carpets had been replaced in the hallway. Previous requirements and recommendations had been carried out. The staff have received updated medication training. Staff photographs and copies of their identity are now on staff files. Photographs and conversation maintained residents lead busy lives and enjoy varied social activities.Residents have regular meetings and decided to have male and female activity groups which have proved very popular. Residents attend various day services and go out independently.There is also the opportunity to go on monthly outings arranged by the residents groups. Residents have enjoyed various individual holidays abroad or in this country to Paris, Whitby,Scotland and Amsterdam. The current registered manager responsible for the day to day running of the home has been given more responsibilities within the organization and is only at the home part time.
