What the care home does well
The thoughtful care given by the manager and staff was seen in the relaxed way that the residents and staff responded to each other. A lively, happy atmosphere was evident throughout the visit to the home. The residents live happily as a close-knit community in a homely, clean, comfortable and safe environment. Both residents and staff admire and respect the manager who, they feel, has made good improvements in many areas since taking the post. Lots of experts are involved with the home, the staff and the residents and this contributes to good support for the specialised needs of the residents. The residents are involved with their care plans and are consulted on their views and wishes. They are encouraged to participate and make decisions about their lives with assistance as needed. Paperwork and document-keeping is excellent: easy to access and clear to read, understand and follow. Staff feel supported and well-supervised. A good level of training is always available, from induction and throughout their employment.
What has improved since the last inspection?
All the requirements set at the previous inspection were checked at this visit and have been actioned upon. All radiators where residents were at risk of injury have been covered. The kitchen has been spring-cleaned and food audits done. The hot water system now has a new tank for the prevention of the risk of legionella disease. The policies and procedures are all up-to-date. Training is being undertaken for staff awareness of the sexuality issue for some residents.
