What the care home does well
Residents appeared to be well cared for and the majority were complimentary of staff at the home with one person saying "You won`t find better anywhere". The home provides a comfortable, clean and well maintained environment where residents are encouraged to maintain their independence and make choices about their lifestyles. One relative of a respite resident wrote to the Commission to explain in detail the positive health and welfare benefits experienced by their relative, resulting from the care received at Flanshaw Lodge.
What has improved since the last inspection?
Safe systems for dealing with medications are now in place and issues relating to fire safety have been addressed. Some refurbishment and redecoration has taken place.
What the care home could do better:
Systems in relation to care planning must be reviewed to ensure that all residents have a care plan and that plans are used as a working document. Care plans must also consider residents` mental health as well as physical needs and staff should be aware at all times of residents` needs in relation to privacy and dignity. Some residents indicated that they did not have anything to do with their time, therefore provision of suitable activities for all residents should be made and staff should be available to dedicate time to meeting residents` needs in relation to social and leisure activities.
