Conditions of registration: Date of last inspection 6th September 2005 Brief Description of the Service: Friday House is a large detached house set in extensive grounds on the edge of the Fen village of Friday Bridge. It is within walking distance of the village amenities and a reasonable driving distance of the market towns of March and Wisbech. The home is on a bus route. The accommodation is on two floors with bedrooms on both floors. There are two sitting rooms, a large games room and a dining room. The service users have access to a large well kept garden. The home is registered for 19 but presently accommodates 17 as two double occupancy rooms have been changed to single occupancy. This is an overview of what the inspector found during the inspection. The unannounced inspection commenced at 15:00 and was conducted with the recently appointed manager. Discussed the change of the management company to Active Care (Southern Cross) that is effective from the 1st April 2006. The manager and the inspector discussed the changes that were planned to take place regarding the administration of the home. Reviewed the standard that was not fully met at the last inspection and the standards not inspected at the last visit. A tour of the premises followed. Staff and service users were spoken to by the inspector. The inspection was completed by 16:30 What the service does well: What has improved since the last inspection? What they could do better:
Some dining chairs are in need of refurbishing or replacing. There is a large stock of continence pads stored in the games room. These pads are supplied on an individual basis and communal storage in an open area is inappropriate. In some areas of the home the floor covering has an institutional appearance and consideration should be given to changing this when any further redecoration is done. Prospective users’ individual aspirations and needs are assessed. Prospective service users know that the home that they will choose will meet their needs and aspirations. Prospective service users have an opportunity to visit and to “test drive” the home. Each service user has an individual written contract or statement of terms and conditions with the home. The Commission consider Standard 2 the key standard to be inspected at least once during a 12 month period. JUDGEMENT – we looked at outcomes for the following standard(s): 1, 2 All these standards were inspected and met at the last inspection. EVIDENCE: Friday House is registered for people aged 18 to 65 and is not registered for dementia care. However it should be noted that the home accommodates at least one person over the age of 65 and some service users with a diagnosis of dementia. The registered person must apply to vary the registration to include one named person over 65 and the number of people under 65 with a diagnosis of dementia in order for these clients to remain ion the home.
