What the care home could do better:

Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 7 What we found: The reason for this inspection was to assess compliance with the statutory requirement notice dated 19th February 2009. This notice related to medicine management concerns and therefore the pharmacist inspector visited the home. You were required by 07 March 2009: At this inspection we looked at Medicine administration record charts relating to dates after 7th March 2009. We looked at medicine ordering, receipt and disposal records. We found that receipts of medicines were recorded. We found that there was a newly implemented audit sheet signed at each medication time by the person who gave the medicines. This sheet incorporated a MAR chart check for complete and accurate records. We found that medicines ordering had been tightened so that people would not be left without their medication. There was one example where a person was left without medicine for three days. There was documented evidence to show that the service had chased up from the doctor and the supplying pharmacy for quick delivery of this item. In addition the service had made changes to their monthly medicine supply delivery day so that medicine are received and checked on a Thursday to allow Friday to follow up any shortfalls. Previously the delivery date was a Friday. All medicine on the charts checked were given as prescribed. We found that the Statutory requirement notice had been met and all necessary actions were taken to address the requirements of the notice.
