The inspection focused on issues raised during an annual review of the service. The issues concerned the use of temporary cover staff, meals and activities on offer for the people who live at the home. The inspection took place over tea time. People told us they are happy with the food. The evening meal was observed and consisted of sandwiches followed by cake. People said that they have a main meal at lunch time and a lighter tea in the evening. Staff say they are not aware of any concerns about the food or how it is served. Staff say that people are given a choice of meals. One person said that staff asked her what she would like for tea. Staff explained that activities are on offer in each lounge every afternoon, these are led by care staff. Activities available include bingo every Friday, art, looking at newspapers and magazines, reminiscing, dominoes and draughts. One person who currently enjoys music and singing, watching films and bingo said she would like more activities. One staff member said that they had observed cover staff members talking in their own language in front of people who live in the home. Staff say that sometimes cover staff do things their own way. an examples of this being putting people to bed too early rather than letting people observe their own routines. Rotas seen show regular use of temporary cover staff. One resident said Quite a few staff left. Now they have to get staff from the agency I have to explain to them what I can and cant do because they dont know. Cover staff told us that they had been given induction on first day, including a tour of building and reading of care plans.
