Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It contained clear, relevant information supported by a range of evidence. The AQAA said they had made changes as a result of listening to people in the home, such as changes to menus and a wider range of activities. The AQAA said they had made changes to improve practices for the safe-handling of medication, and to make recruitment procedures more robust to protect people in the home. The AQAA showed that 18 out of 21 care staff had achieved a relevant National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2 or above. The data section of the AQAA was fully completed. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We sent out 10 surveys to people living in the home and received 9 responses, 6 of these had been completed with help from the persons relative. Most people told us they always had the care and support they needed, including medical care. Most people said staff were always available when they were needed, and that staff listened to them and acted on what they said. Most people told us there were activities they could take part in and they enjoyed the meals at the home. Most people knew how to make a complaint and said they could speak to someone informally if they were not happy. 3 people said they had not had enough information about the home and had not been given a copy of the terms and conditions of living in the home. People told us: The staff are very caring and helpful It is a pleasure to visit the Lodge where my Mum is and I come away with a peace of mind Couldnt have a nicer place We sent out 10 surveys to staff at the home and received 8 responses. All said they had up to date information about the needs of people in the home, and they had relevant training to help them to understand and meet those needs. All said they had Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 regular support from their manager. All knew what to do if anyone had concerns about the home. Most said there were usually enough staff to meet the needs of people in the home. Staff told us: a good place to work, friendly the management take time to listen to any concerns any member of staff may have could do with more activities at all times, at present activities are afternoons only The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 28th October 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of people using the service.
