To accommodate one named service user under 65 years of age with Dementia Date of last inspection Brief description of the care home Northleach Court is situated close to the centre of Northleach, which is about 12 miles from Cheltenham and 10 miles from Cirencester. The Home is a registered Care Home with nursing and has 60 beds with a category of dementia care for predominately older people. Accommodation is on two floors; on the ground floor there are a number of communal rooms including a conservatory, dining areas and lounges. The home has grounds comprising of a number of enclosed courtyard areas and small lawns. I was accompanied on this inspection by Alison Fry from the Health and Safety Executive. We looked at the systems the home has in place for the use of bed rails and to make sure staff are using the appropriate guidance. So that people who use the service are not being put at risk by there use. Moving and handling equipment was looked at and evidence of maintenance and safety checks undertaken on this equipment. Risk assessments for the use of bed rails and moving and handling equipment were also examined for some people. Training for staff in relation to moving and handling and how staff assess people for moving and handling equipment was discussed. Alison Fry looked at how the home reduces the risks of Legionella. They may not have been looked at during this inspection, as a random inspection is short and focussed. The registered person must take the necessary action to comply with these requirements within the timescales set.
No. Standard Regulation Requirement Timescale for action 1 7 15 Care plans must reflect the 04/06/2008 current care needs of people who use the service. This will make sure that staff have the information available to them for consistency in care and to make sure they know how to meet the needs of people who use the service. This requirement was not followed up at this inspection. The home needs to address the odours in the rooms identified and given to the manager, to make sure people live in an odour free and pleasant environment. This requirement was not followed up at this inspection. 30/04/2008 2 26 16(k) 3 30 13 (4c) The home must make sure 04/06/2008 that as part of promoting the safety of people who use the service some staff are trained in first aid. This will help to make sure that the home is run in the best interests of the people who use the service.
