During this visit we looked at the way in which medicines are managed:Outstanding requirements concerning other areas of care were not inspected. We found that all medicines were safely stored and kept at the correct temperature. We checked all the controlled drugs in the home and found that stocks matched the records. We saw that medication charts were completed correctly and that the administration of peoples medicines was recorded. Charts clearly showed where medicines had been stopped or changed by the doctor. We found that new members of staff were being supported and supervised when administering medicines, and that medication training had been organised. We looked at the medicine policy and procedures and found that they described what happens in the home. We asked about arrangements for people to take their medicines with them if they are away from the home for more than a day, and noted that this section of the policy needed updating so as to follow good practice guidance.
