What the care home does well

This home looks after the residents well. The home have a core team of staff that have received basic training. Agency workers are used, however the home tries to keep to workers that are familiar with the residents. Staff encourage the residents to be independent with their personal care providing supervision when needed. The residents can choose how they spend their days. The home organises trips and holidays for the residents and the last was in June to a Pontins holiday camp. Residents are fully involved with their care plans and know who to speak to if something is not right for them. They commented that the staff treated them well are friendly and listened to them most of the time. The accommodation is warm, with comfortable furnishings in the lounge that create a homely appearance. Residents assist with household chores to maintain the upkeep of the home and help with the care of the pet cat.

What has improved since the last inspection?

The Estuary Housing maintenance team has assessed the poor ventilation in the upstairs bathroom. However as yet the work has not started to improve this problem. The home have also secured a budget to purchase new bedding, blinds and dinning room furniture for the comfort of the residents.

What the care home could do better:

Staffing levels have not been consistent. On occasions there have been two staff on duty instead of three. This can impact on care that residents can expect to receive.Information available to new residents is old and some parts of it are not clear. Residents` bedrooms and bathrooms also need attention for better comfort and to maintain hygiene.
