What the care home does well

The home is clean and tidy and service users said they found it to be comfortable and homely. The service users spoken with said they were satisfied with standards of care, that they were treated with respect and that they enjoyed the homes provision of food. Comments included: "I can honestly say that they are lovely, you can have a good laugh with them and the care is faultless". "We have been very satisfied overall, if you mention anything then they do act on it and it`s a friendly, caring place". "You would prefer your own home of course but they are marvellous, all of it". "Its clean, tidy and the food is always very good". The staff were observed to be kind and attentive when speaking to and caring for service users. The management of the homes administration is well maintained overall.

What has improved since the last inspection?

It was identified during the previous inspection that service users care plan information must be reviewed each Month, which is now being completed. Some staff supervision is now taking place of which records are maintained although further is required regarding this.

What the care home could do better:

The homes fire safety procedures were not being undertaken as per fire safety regulations. For example, emergency lighting tests were not being recorded and the recording of fire tests were sporadic. Service users care plans do not fully document where service users are involved in the devising of their individual plans and records do not document that service users are afforded sufficient provision of activities. It is acknowledged that some activities take place but that these are not always recorded. The service users spoken with were not fully aware of how to complain about the service, which was further evidenced within some of the completed questionnaires seen. Whilst some improvements have been made regarding the recruitment of staff the records viewed did not demonstrate that staff attend sufficient induction, training or supervision to undertake their roles although some action is being taken regarding these.
