What the care home does well

Where internal works were taking place this had been sealed off from the residents using the communal lounge/dining area. All residents were settled. One resident was talking to her visitors. Another resident talked with the inspector and said that she enjoyed being in the home, and that both the manager and staff were very kind to her.

What the care home could do better:

It was noted however that a door through to where building work is taking place was not closed and did not have a lock fitted, this would have allowed any resident into an area, that is not safe and would place residents at risk of falling into holes in the flooring, where wiring is being laid. In another area of the lounge wiring from workmens tools was placed in the socket but the wires were trailing on the floor. It was also noted that a one piece of plasterboard, had not been fixed and again would have allowed residents to access where building work was taking place. All these issues were pointed out to the Registered Manager, who immediately made sure that the unlocked door was secured and that residents could not have access. The wire trailing from tools was removed, and the screening board was fixed to the wall, to again ensure that residents did not have access to a workmens area and be placed at risk.
