Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 6 What we found:
We carried out this inspection following issues raised regarding falls in the home, one resulting in a fracture and admission to hospital. We looked at care plans which showed us that people had very clear risk assessments regarding the risk of falling. We also saw that all falls were clearly recorded and a falls audit kept so that trends or themes could be identified. We looked at the records for one person who had fallen and sustained a fracture. The records were very clear about their risk of falling and lack of understanding regarding their mobility. The daily record also stated clearly times of events and actions taken by staff. We also discussed with the provider via telephone, procedures followed by staff after a fall results in a suspected fracture. Whilst visiting the home we discussed the introduction of further activities, meaning that people were occupied more often through the day. The manager stated that there were also plans in place to make the lounge larger and to move the office so that people living in the home would benefit from more communal space.
