Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 6 What we found: A tour of the premises found that the doors were secure and alarmed so that residents appeared safe. The controlled drugs record was not correct and nor were the medication sheets examined which confirmed that the medication practices need improvement. The deputy manager confirmed that there had been an incident where prescribed cream had not been available and also said that controlled drugs had not necessarily been available at night time which again is against good practice, although she said this had been rectified. The deputy manager and the responsible individual both confirmed that residents are being admitted with a diagnosis of dementia which is not in accordance with the registration conditions. Staffing levels would have to be reconsidered if the home wishes to change its registration conditions to include a dementia category. The responsible individual indicated that he wished to do that so that this matter is rectified.
