Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. We looked at any notices that were received under Regulation 37; these are the details of illness, death, injury or any other event in the care home that affects peoples well being. We asked the manager to complete an annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) form. This form is for the manager to carry out a self-assessment of how well the outcomes of people using their services are being met. We sent questionnaires to people who use the service, their relatives, and staff and health and social care professionals to enable us to obtain their views on how well the home is run. We looked at the report that was written as a result of the homes last key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us the homes annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it and it was clear and gave us all of the information that we asked for. The manager said in her AQAA There has been no admissions in the last two years; all of the care plans and risk assessments have been reviewed in the past twelve months and people enjoy eating out, pub lunches, shopping, swimming, knitting, doing puzzles, wordsearch, scrabble and cake-making. The manager also said in her AQAA we have refurbished the garden and there is a new patio step with a non-slip slope and hand rail to assist people to access the garden and we have bought two new assisted armchairs, a flat screen television, an electric bed and a circulation booster. The AQAA also showed that all of the bedrooms, the lounge and the conservatory had been redecorated since the last inspection and that handrails had been fitted and the boiler replaced. New non slip flooring has been fitted in the bathroom, toilets and shower room and new flooring has been fitted to two of the rooms upstairs. We received completed surveys from five of the people using the service and from four of the homes staff and all of these were positive about the service that 12 Marine Approach provides and comments included my carer understands me, the staff look after me very well, the home does everything well, could not do any better. Comments from the staff surveys included the home is always striving to be the best and its a happy home, the home is always clean and we have nice food and people are treated as individuals, staff are very friendly and have worked at the home for many years. The last key inspection took place on 17/10/2007 and the report showed that 12 Marine Approach was providing people with a good service and the last annual service review confirmed this. After looking at the AQAA, the last inspection report and all of the other evidence we feel that the manager knows what improvements she needs to make and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 17/10/2010. However we can inspect at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it.
