What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. We looked at any notices that were received under Regulation 37; these are the details of illness, death, injury or any event in the care home that affects peoples well being. We asked the manager to complete an annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) form. This form is for the manager to carry out a self assessment of how well the outcomes of people using the service are being met. We sent questionnaires to people who use the service, their relatives and to staff and health and social care professionals to enable us to obtain their views on how well the home is run. We looked at the report that was written as a result of the homes last key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us the homes annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it and it was clear and gave us all of the information that we asked for. The manager said in her AQAA we now have staff that do flower arranging with one of the people that lives in the home and we have looked at tailored courses that are specific to the individual and that empowers them to gain more knowledge. One staff member said in their survey people are encouraged to try out new activities and college courses and remain as independent as possible, always with full staff support. The AQAA showed that the home has a better awareness of person centred planning and staff surveyed confirmed that staff are more aware of ensuring that care plans are person centred. Staff described the home in their surveys as being a supportive atmosphere, warm and homely, treats people with dignity and respect and delivers a good standard of care. We sent surveys to all of the people using the service, to four health care professionals and to eight of the homes staff. We received five completed surveys from staff members but did not receive any other completed surveys. All of the surveys that we received were positive about working at 19 Fairview Road and the planned improvements that were mentioned in the surveys have now taken place according to the information supplied by the manager in her AQAA. The last key inspection took place on 29/01/2009 and the report showed that 19 Fairview Road was providing people with a good (2 stars) service. After looking at the AQAA, the last inspection report and all of the other evidence we feel that the manager knows what improvements they need to make and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good (2 stars) service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 29/01/2011. However we can inspect at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
