Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment AQAA that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people living at the home, relatives and staff. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service; these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The care home sent their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and detailed giving us all the information required. We looked at all the information on the AQAA and our judgement is that the agency still provides a good service and continues to look at how they could improve further. Prior to the review, surveys were sent to the people being cared for in the home and staff who could respond anonymously if they wished. Six surveys have been returned from the people being cared for and the responses were all very positive. Comments included: The food is very good and I enjoyed the activities. The staff are helpful. The home ensures that policies are in place with regard to Equality and Diversity and all the persons cared for are given the same attention regardless of any cultural or religious requirements or their disability, sexual orientation or age. The persons cared for are able to choose whether they would prefer a male or female member of staff to provide them with personal care. Consultation takes place on a regular basis with the persons supported and their families. New menus have been put in place following a recent survey. Activities are in place and Halloween and Christmas parties have been organised and the people supported have been involved in the planning of the parties. Staff always Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 have time to sit and chat to the people supported and there have been trips out to Blackpool, Fleetwood and Cleveleys. The home has an appropriate complaints procedure and all staff have received external training on the Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse (POVA). The home is well maintained and provides a safe comfortable environment for the persons cared for. Environmental Health have recently visited the home and increased the star rating from three stars to four stars. The outside area has been improved with a safe sitting area in a courtyard with new planters full of flowers. All staff are recruited appropriately and the training provided is comprehensive and in line with the nationally agreed Skills for Care Programme. There are currently 19 care staff and 12 have a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2 or above; the NVQ is a recognised nationally agreed care qualification. The registered owner is also the registered manager and has obtained the Registered Managers Award and NVQ at level 4 in Management and Care. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to monitor any information we receive about the home. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
