What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection which was undertaken on 18th July 2008 this included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was comprehensive in detail and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the service is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We sent out surveys to people and the staff team, but we did not receive any back before we completed this report. The information provided in the AQAA told us that all people are assessed before they move into this service so that people can be assured their needs can be met. The service completes a number of risk assessments in order to ascertain what peoples needs are and to monitor any risks identified. They told us each person has a detailed a care plan which is regularly reviewed to ensure it reflects peoples current needs. The AQAA told us that all staff are instructed during induction about peoples right to privacy and dignity. The staff team have access to regular training opportunities and we were told in the information provided: we strive to ensure that all staff take part in NVQ level 2 qualification pro grammes, and those who wish to can also take part in NVQ level 3 in health and social care. They told us their recruitment procedure is thorough and is based on equal opportunities and the protection of people who live in the home. In the AQAA the service told us their aim is to deliver the highest quality of care at all times to people. They said they continually monitor, and aim to improve the quality of care and standards in the home. The systems they use include: distributing surveys and Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 questionnaires to individuals, relatives, carers and external practitioners to assess their satisfaction with the service. They review their policies, procedures and the hands on care that is given to people in an attempt to ensure they are up to date with changes in legislation and improvements in care. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 17th June 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
