Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. We received four completed surveys from people living in the home and three from staff. We also received a survey completed by a Doctor who regularly visits the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. A telephone conversation with the Registered Manager for the service on 17th February 2010. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment when we asked for it. It was complete and provided us with clear information and evidence. There were suitable responses to the questions we asked in terms of what the service does well and also as to the way they could effect any changes and improvements. The service told us that they continue to work in the best interests of the people who live at Acacia Care Centre and they promote independence and choice. We looked at the information provided for us in the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment and our judgement is that Acacia Care Centre can still provide a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The information tells us; As a provider of care our duty is to protect service users from distress, whether psychological or physical and also to protect their preferences and beliefs whether religious, cultural, ethnic, social, etc. The AQAA also included important information about staff training and development, Health and Safety and about the ongoing re-furbishment of the home. Training is continually monitored by the home manager and is ongoing every month. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Staff receive supervision bi-monthy and an annual appraisal. We are continually improving the home and the environment. We continue to invest in the home with refurbishments and decoration. There have been no significant incidents or concerns reported directly to The Care Quality Commission since the last key inspection that took place in January 2009. Following the last Key Inspection where a number of requirements were made, we received an action plan from the manager telling us how these matters would be addressed. We discussed this with the manager and are satisfied that appropriate measures have been put in place to address all the issues identified. We have received one complaint since the last Key Inspection and this was investigated in line with policy and procedure and the outcome shared with the complainant. The service communicates satisfactorily with the Care Quality Commission and has shown us that that they are able to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. The completed surveys we have received from people living at the service, staff and from a Doctor who visits the home, tell us that people are satisfied with the support they receive at Acacia Care Centre. We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 12th January 2011. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed.
