If yes, what have they been: There have been no changes to the registration of the home. 1 3 1 0 2 0 0 8 Date of last key inspection: Date of last annual service review (if applicable): Brief description of the service Acorn House is a large, detached Victorian property set in its own grounds in the Oxton area of Birkenhead. It is within walking distance of local shops, churches and other community facilities in Oxton Village as well as bus services to Birkenhead town centre and other parts of Wirral. The back garden is enclosed and has a protected patio. There is a large car park at the front of the building. The accommodation is on four floors, all served by a passenger lift. All of the residents have single bedrooms, many of them with en suite facilities. The main lounge is downstairs, as is the dining room Annual Service Review Page 2 of 5 which is partly in the new conservatory. There is a smaller lounge/diner on the first floor, which is used for some organised activities and by some people who prefer a quieter room. Fees range from £464 to £500 a week. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information we have received since the last key (full) inspection. This included the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) which is a self assessment document that we ask registered providers to send to us. It shows how well the provider believes that it is meeting the needs of the people who live at the home. It also gives us some statistical information about the home. We sent surveys to some people who live at Acorn House and two of them were returned. We looked at the last key inspection report and anything that the owner or manager have told us about the home in the last year. What has this told us about the service? The manager, Mandy Courtenay, sent us the AQAA when we asked for it and it included all of the information we had asked for. In the AQAA the manager said that the home has introduced improved care planning and assessments in the last year and that care plans were now kept on computer. New furniture had been bought and the menu - already very good - has been extended further. The residents who responded (via their relatives) spoke highly of the care they receive. One said Everybody takes care of me, I feel loved and respected. A relative told us that the manager and her staff were wonderful and they are myself and my mums second family. Another relative said that the owner and the manager were very receptive to relatives ideas and a support group had been started. The food was described as excellent. We believe t hat Acorn House continues to achieve excellent outcomes for the people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about Acorn House and will carry out another inspection when required.
