What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. We checked what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We looked at the previous key inspection report and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. We looked at relevant information from other organisations. We looked to see if other people have told us anything about the service since the last inspection which was on the 7th August 2008. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection, although there have been no notifications this year. The AQAA noted that there have been several developments, such as improved ways of getting people who use the service to express their views by the use of emotion cards and pictures, development of individualised and improved health action plans signed by the G.P and making Adult Protection more prominent in the new induction process. The AQAA told us that 11 staff have left the home in the past year but they also said that this was due to having alot of overseas staff on annual contracts. They are trying to increase the number of local staff that they appoint. The home reports that it uses bank staff, instead of agency to cover any shortfalls of staff and this has improved the continuity of care to the people who use the service. The high turnover of staff this year has resulted in a low percentage of staff being trained to NVQ 2 standard but this is being addressed by the service. The home reported that no complaints have been received by them and there have been no safeguarding incidents or concerns about them or reported by them. No information about complaints or safeguarding issues have been received by the Commission since the last inspection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review?
Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 7th August 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 6 of 7 Reader Information
