Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment That focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection A telephone call to the Registered home manager What has this told us about the service? The AQAA is out of date so I contacted the registered home manager by telephone for an update. The manager updated me on the service. They showed me the following: There is now only one vacant placement. Two new residents have moved in. One has mental health needs and the manager assured me that mental health services are in place for his care. Staff have attended training specific to the needs of the current residents. Topics have included, The Mental Health Act and learning disability. The Deputy manager had a senior support worker have been trained and trainers and they have started delivering in house training to the staff. Topics covered so far are health and safety. The manager said feedback from staff had been positive. Staff are having regular refresher courses for safe moving and handling, residents have a physical disability and need assistance so this is important. The registered provider monitors the quality of the service provided on a monthly basis. There are regular monthly inspection visits by the area manager who completes reports in accordance with Regulation 26 and sends the reports to the home manager. There are monthly audits of care and these are sent to the head office each month. I asked how these had been assessed and the manager said that the home was doing alright. There have only been one hospital admission and the commission was notified. The was discharged the next day. There has only been one general admission and the commission was notified. The resident was discharged the next day. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 There have been no formal complaints and residents can raise complaints or concerns at regular meetings. There have been no safeguarding investigations or referrals There have been no changes to the homes stated purpose There have been no deaths and none of the residents has a pressure sore No controlled drugs are in use There is one part time staff vacancy for a night wake. Bank staff are covering these two nights each week until the post is advertised in January 2010. All staff have an enhanced criminal records check Company human resources have recently reviewed and revised some of the staffing policies and copies of these amended policies are sent to the home. The building is alright but the garden needs to be cleared. The manager is awaiting the appointment of a new handyman to this end. Staff and residents are preparing for a Festive house party. I advised that the manager and staff undertake training in the new Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards as the manager said they have not attended any training about this and none had been planned. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 25th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
