What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have, or asked for, since the last key inspection of Beeston View on 7 October 2008. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people who use the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys sent out to people who live at the home and staff members to find out their views about Beeston View. Information we have about how the service has managed complaints. What Beeston View has told us about things that have happened at the service; these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection which was carried out at Beeston View on 7 October 2008. Relevant information we have received from other organisations. What other people have told us about the home. What has this told us about the service? Beeston View sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was well documented and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the service is still providing a good service and it continues to maintain and improve the service for people who use it. Beeston View has not received any complaints during the last year and the commission had also not received any complaints about the home during the last year. One safeguarding referral had been made by the service over the last year. This has been to make sure that people who live at the home are protected from abuse or harm. Family members of the people who live at Beeston View said, All the staff seem friendly and willing to talk. They seem to care about the individuals and families. I have no concerns over the level of care provided. The home is always very clean and the food is good, We have had no complaints about any aspect of the care and it is a wonderful care home, like a family to us all, They care for my relative with kindness and patience, There are pleasant and helpful staff, the home is clean and the food is good, The level of my parents care and hygiene and general well being has improved considerably whilst in the home. this is due to the staff and their level of understanding Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 when dealing with the ongoing health problems and Very clean and well run by caring professional staff. Always listen to any concerns that we may have. Some times the laundry gets mixed up. One person who lives at the home commented, Generally everything is good. But more games could be introduced for those able to take an active part. The staff do their best in all situations. To find a more relaxed care home would take some finding as I visited many before coming here. Staff commented, The home is welcoming and staff are very friendly. Activities for the clients are well catered for. Meals are attractively presented and a wide variety of diet is prepared and They treat people as individuals, always include families in decisions and activities. This is home, not just a place to work. In my opinion the home is as close to perfect as you can get. Other comments included, There are sometimes enough staff on duty to meet the needs of the people living there and They do food, activities, care and accommodation very well. Areas where staff thought improvements could be made was in the laundry and having more staff there, as there are delays in laundry coming back to residents and More staff per resident would be good and better communication amongst the staff team. The manager made the following comments in the AQAA. She stated that listening to people who use the service she has made recent improvements which include: the activities co-ordinator meeting residents regularly on an individual basis to establish any request or concerns they may have. The manager stated that questionnaires to be completed after people have moved in have been implemented and are given to each service user or relative to complete. This enables the home to identify good practice and improve any areas of concern. The manager stated that she has introduced a questionnaire for all enquirers to answer so she can monitor their feedback to improve customer care. The manager also told us in the AQAA that the plans for the next year include to provide more funding for training to ensure staff maintain a high quality of care. They will also continue with the strict vetting procedures for all new recruits and for all new staff to receive the induction programme. The manager said that updating training for all existing staff and to provide funding for outside training was continuing and that all staff have the opportunity to complete the yesterday today and tomorrow course, infection control course and NVQ training. The manager said that she has implemented time out on the rota for staff to use the computer and some staff needed support on on how to use it. The manager said there was a rolling programme for decorating the home and that the gardens are maintained to a high standard by the gardener and he supports residents to maintain their own areas with pots plants. The manager hopes to raise more money for other outdoor equipment. The manager confirmed that the cordless telephone system had improved, and out of hours calls can now be answered promptly. The new system also allows service users to speak to their relatives without having to have a land line. The manager hopes to involve the service users to help design a sensory garden and a garden area allotment with raised beds. Beeston View will be entering the Barchester
Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 organisations Barchester in Bloom competition, where all the homes compete for the best garden title. She said that she was also hoping to raise money for an artist studio so people living in the home can do painting and drawing. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last main inspection there and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and we will do a key inspection within three years of the previous inspection being carried out. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 6 of 7 Reader Information
