Care Homes for Older People Page 2 of 6 What we found: We had been told that the building was not being heated adequately in very cold weather; it was snowing. We found that several, but not all of the central heating radiators in the home were not working. Six bedrooms had been affected. Fan heaters had been put in one of those rooms as the occupant was too frail to be moved. The room was warm. The other residents had been temporarily moved to rooms whose heating had not been affected. Those rooms were also warm. Fan heaters were working in one of the lounges that had been left without heating and staff had been sent to a local store to buy extra temporary heating. The manager had been informed and was keeping in touch as was the duty manager for the owners, European Wellcare. A central heating engineer had been called out but was not yet on the premises. The residents welfare had been protected by the staff in less than ideal circumstances and those areas of the building being used by them were warm enough.
