Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? An annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) was received on the 18th December 2009. Although this document wasnt as thorough as it could have been, it contained relevant information about the service, including how the service promotes equality and diversity and how they gather the views of the people living there. The AQAA told us of improvements that have been made to the service in the last year. These include providing training within basic care principles, safeguarding adults, medication, dementia and food and nutrition for the staff working at the service. Improvements have been made to the way that any concerns are recorded and work has been carried out to improve the environment, including new floorings, curtains and the redecoration of the main area of the home. It told us of how it had listened to the views of people using the service and working for the service and it also told us of the improvements planned for the next twelve months to further improve the service being provided. These include report writing training for staff and further improvements to the environment to provide people with a comfortable and homely place to live. The AQAA told us that the service had received one complaint in the previous twelve months. A conversation with the acting unit manager informed us that one further complaint had been received, between the AQAA being completed on 18th December 2009 and the day this annual service review took place, We were told this complaint Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 was regarding the use of an outside clothing company, the complaint was fully investigated and actions were taken to address the issues raised. We sent Have your Say surveys to ten people currently living at the service and five members of the staff team to gather their views of the service being provided. All ten surveys had been returned by the time this Annual Service Review was finalised. They told us that they received the care and support they needed, staff are available when they need them and they knew who to talk to if they had a concern of any kind. Comments received included: Visitors remark on how clean and tidy the home is, I feel well looked after. Foods good. They look after me well, Im happy here. The home has very good cooks, they do not come any better. Everyone is friendly. We are well looked after and make sure that we are safe and well. Four staff surveys had also been returned by the time this Annual Service Review was finalised. They told us that recruitment practices are robust, staff are supported by the management team and relevant training is provided to ensure that they can meet the needs of those in their care. Comments received included: We care for our residents extremely well, they are safe, well and comfortable. We look after the residents needs, health etc the best way we can. They give training to staff when and where needed. We care extremely well for vulnerable residents, familys and friends and service the surrounding community with day care services. Care is of a high standard, very caring committed staff and the home is clean and odour free. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed any issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the risk level of the service. We will have more information about this when the new registration and inspection system is confirmed under the Health and Social Care Act 2008.
