Current fees for the home are 385 pounds a week. Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: This inspection was arranged to check whether the home had met an immediate requirement which had been made at the key unannounced inspection 26th November 2008. We leave an immediate requirement when we have concerns that there is an immediate risk to one or more people using the service. The requirement we left was for the home to ensure that all medication is stored, administered and recorded as prescribed. We required this to be done by 28th November 2008. When checking whether this requirement had been met we felt that there had been a possible further breach in the Care Home regulations relating to the administration and recording of medication. We served a Code B notice to the registered manager. This notice is issued in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and explains our powers and rights. Records were copied and seized during the inspection and this evidence will be reviewed and considered in relation to possible enforcement action. The registered manager and deputy manger were present throughout the inspection. A regulation manager accompanied the inspector during the inspection. Records showed that tablets had been ordered to replace the two that were missing from last key inspection. Records showed that one person may not have been given some medication as prescribed. The type of medication requires close monitoring to ensure that the correct dose is given as any overdose can cause severe bleeding. Six tablets were not accounted for and records were unclear about which strength of tablet had been administered on each day. Records showed that another person had not been given their creams as prescribed. At the time of inspection the registered manager was unable to confirm whether the home had a medication policy, she did however confirm the following day that there was one in place. The registered manager confirmed that the home has a controlled drugs storage cupboard on order to ensure that they will be able to comply with the regulations on the storage of controlled drugs. Controlled drugs are prescribed medicines which some people abuse them by taking them when they have not been prescribed. There are laws and regulations about how these drugs should be stored and administered.
