What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This includes: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. It had been completed by the manager of the service. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service. The AQAA indicated areas where improvements have been made in the past year and what further work they plan to do. The last inspection in January 2009 identified that the care provided at Bramber is good, with positive feedback from visitors to the home, and no requirements were made. Issues regarding staffing levels and the information recorded in the care plan were identified as a concern and as stated in the AQAA these have been addressed. The hours worked by the proprietors has been increased to enable care assistants to spend more time with the people living in the home, and additional information has been included in the care plans regarding the specific needs of residents. An expert in falls awareness and a dietitian have visited the home to offer further support for staff and residents, and the home endeavors to involved the relatives and friends as much as possible. The manager has been responsible for the home for 17 years and a number of staff Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 have also worked at the home for a number of years. As the AQAA explains they have a good understanding of the residents needs. Questionnaires are sent out regularly to relatives and friends, and the proprietors are available to discuss any concerns or suggestions they may have at any time. After listening to residents visitors they are able to talk to their relatives or friends quietly in the quiet lounge on the first floor, or the residents own bedrooms. More varied and frequent activities have been organised, and they are looking at arranging pet therapy for the residents. The AQAA states that there is ongoing refurbishment and redecoration at the home, radiators have been replaced and the home plans to provide more robust bed tables for residents to use. Resident/relative and staff surveys were sent to the home, seven resident and six staff surveys were completed and returned to the Commission. The feedback from all was very positive, comments from relatives included visitors are always welcome, at any time, the proprietors and staff are to be commended for the efforts made on special days like birthdays and holidays, every effort is for the welfare and comfort of the residents, excellent nursing care, all needs are taken care of, the home is friendly, warm and caring, the food is good, it is a joy for me and our family to see how wonderful the care is. Staff were equally positive stating that the care is of a very high standard, Bramber is the best establishment I have worked in, staff and management perform to the best of their ability, we work very well together as a team. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last inspection. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key unannounced inspection by 30th January 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
