What did we do for this annual service review? We looked out all the information that we have received, or asked for about Brewery House since the last key inspection. We looked at any notices that we received; these are the details of illness, death, injury or any other event in the care home that affects peoples well-being. We asked the manager to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) form. This form is for the manager to consider and report on how well the think the service they provide meets the expected outcomes of the people using the service. We sent surveys to the manager to give to residents and/or relatives and asked them to tell us their views on how they think the home is run. We looked at the report that was written about the homes last key inspection. An inspector went to the home as part of that key inspection and spent time with the residents, staff and the manager. What has this told us about the service? The manager has notified us on any significant matters that may have affected the wellbeing of residents and we have not received any correspondence that relate to the content of this report. We have not received any complaints about this home and from the managers AQAA, she has not had to deal with any complaints and says that a user friendly procedure is in place. Residents who completed surveys said that they knew how to raise any concerns that they may have. The manager completed a comprehensive, objective and informative AQAA, which shows that she continues to develop the service provided to residents, the staff team and the home in general. There is evidence in the AQAA that shows there is consultation with residents and following this they have developed a more flexible approach to the residents daily routines, including mealtimes and visits out of the home. Residents are able to meet with their key workers twice a week and care plans are updated with the residents and/or their relatives. The manager tries to use advocate for independent support but local resources are limited at times. Residents are actively taking part in voluntary work supported by their key workers and there are hopes that this will increase along with more educational opportunities. The manager says that they allow residents to take risks in their day to day lives in order to promote independence and this has been having a positive effect with regard to empowering residents. Staffing at the home is stable and residents are encouraged to attend the informal part of the recruitment of any new staff. Staff training continues and the manager confirms staff training in such subjects as health and safety and infection control. Staff have also attended training in Aspergers Syndrome, epilepsy and autism and plans are in place for training on the Mental Capacity Act. Residents and/or relatives returned completed surveys to us. Overall these were positive about the home and the services provided. There was evidence that service users are supported to lead a full and active life, they think the home is clean and that they have a say in what they do. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 At the last key inspection, where an inspector visited the home, they said Brewery House offered people who live there good opportunities to participate in meaningful activities and exercise choices so that they could have a fulfilling lifestyle. The premises were homely and nicely furnished giving the residents a pleasant living environment. The size of the service allows residents and staff group to get to know each other so that residents have opportunity for consistency of care and to build relationships. The management style includes all the people at the home and residents, relatives and other stakeholders will be given opportunity to express their views on the care provided. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
