Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear although the information contained within the document was very brief. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The AQAA told us that during the past year there have been four new admissions to the home but the service still has two empty beds. This period of under occupancy has been used to improve the paper work and training practises. All new people wishing to use the service benefited from a full pre-admission assessment to ensure that the home could meet their needs. We were told that each person using the service has a care plan which is altered from time to time to meet the persons needs. There are regular visits to the home from the GP, district nurses and chiropodist. The manager told us that the home is small and people using the service are treated like an extended family. People are included in decisions which affect their preferences in social religious and recreational needs. We were also advised that the home received no complaints or safeguarding adult referrals during the last year. Staff that completed the survey forms confirmed that their employer carried out the necessary checks required before they commenced their Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 employment in the home, which protects the people using the service. The AQAA advised us that during the past year the manager has replaced one bed, two carpets, three commodes, linen bed protectors and replaced the pillows. They told us they will continue to renew and replace the furniture as required to ensure the comfort of the people using the service. The home is small and so we are told that they are able to offer a much higher staffing ratio. The staff team are family members and have a mix of skills which ensures that people using the service have their needs met. Relatives that completed and returned surveys to us said:As far as I am concerned this is one of the better homes. The residents rarely have complaints. It is comforting to know that my mother is receiving the care that she requires. We have found the home friendly and relaxed. Everybody is very helpful and the meals, laundry and room are excellent. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 21st September 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
