Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: 1. The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. 2. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. 3. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. 4. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. 5. Relevant information from other organisations. 6. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? Due to difficulties in accessing the correct AQAA form for completion, the commission had not received the completed AQAA at the time of writing this report. Therefore information from the AQAA submitted in 2008 has been used. We looked at the information in the AQAA and previous key inspection information and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and know what improvements they need to make. No further visits have been made to this service since the key inspection visit conducted on 23rd July 2007. People living at the home enjoy an active and varied lifestyle, and are encouraged to develop and maintain their interests and use a wide range of social and recreational activities. The home has a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the property is well maintained with a program of routine maintenance to make sure that standards remain high. The home is fully adapted to promote peoples independence and all areas both internally and externally, are accessible for wheelchair users. People living at the home have positive relationships with staff, and are actively encouraged to influence the way in which the home is run and to participate in the drawing up of policies and procedures. The home is well managed and the manager is committed to ensuring that people living at the home, and the staff, contribute to the decision-making processes. People living at the home are protected by thorough recruitment procedures ensuring that all the necessary checks are carried out before staff are employed. Comments previously received about the home from visiting professionals and relatives of people living at the home have all been positive. No requirements or recommendations were made at the last inspection. The at AQAA tells us that people are provided with information about the home to help them to decide whether or not they would like to live there. Information about the home is communicated to people using appropriate methods and individuals contracts are provided using pictures to enable understanding . People are supported to develop their own person centred plan and these are reviewed regularly. Staff at the home Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 receive regular, relevant training so that they have the skills to meet the needs of the people living at the home. Some staff are qualified to assess NVQ candidates, which helps to motivate and encourage the team towards achieving their NVQ awards. The AQAA confirms that policies and procedures are in place for dealing with complaints and protecting people. No complaints have been received by the service or the Commission since the last inspection. The home continues to let us how about things that have happened since the last inspection and they have shown that they manage issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 22nd July 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
