What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the main information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Improvements have been made to the premises. All the lounge chairs have been replaced, and the home now has a selection to suit different residents including high/low chairs and riser/recliner chairs. The furniture in the lounge has been rearranged to make it easier for residents who like to wander to get around. New lighting has been installed in part of the dining room to make it brighter for residents with impaired vision. In addition four bedrooms have been refurbished. Substantial changes have also been made to the gardens. There is a new patio, garden furniture, and lighting. Security has been improved and a mature tree trimmed to let more light into the lounge. Other improvements to the premises include a new television, and new plants and flowers in the foyer and lounge to add colour and warmth. Dallington House continues to be recognised as an Investor in People following an inspection in May 2009. Over 80 per cent of staff are qualified to NVQ Level 2 (a recognised national vocational qualification for people working in care homes) or higher. The staff team is established (no agency staff have been employed at the home Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 for over 14 years) and this helps to ensure they are able to provide continuity of care. Records show that residents are becoming more active. Exercise classes, including yoga, have been introduced. Some residents are choosing to help staff with chores such as setting and clearing tables, taking clothes to their rooms, and hanging them in wardrobes. One resident who always needed help in dressing/undressing has learnt to do it themselves and is proud of this. All these activities are documented in residents care plans. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The next inspection of this service will be based on the Fees and Frequency Regulations 2007 and the assessment of risk of the service. Further clarity will become evident as the new registration and inspection system under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 is confirmed. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
