What the care home does well The process of reviewing and updating the care plans has been started. We saw one of the completed care plans and this contains clear, up to date information about the residents needs. We could also see that updated information has been provided promptly for a resident who has recently returned from hospital with complex health needs. Staff have written information which they can refer to which provides them with guidance about meeting the residents needs. The management team are taking action to address issues within the staff team. Some of these issues will take some time to come to a conclusion but we can see that they are being addressed. The organisation has taken steps to arrange that a suitable organisation takes over the appointee ship for the residents and is responsible for managing their money. There is only one member of staff who has not received Safeguarding training. Steps are being taken to ensure that this member of staff also receives the necessary training. What the care home could do better: The review and updating of the care plans needs to continue to ensure that staff have clear guidance about meeting individual residents needs. Action needs to be taken to address the risks identified recently relating to the security of the building for particular residents. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: We carried out an unannounced visit on the 18th May 2010. During the visit we spoke to the acting manager, deputy manager and care staff. We also looked at a selection of records. We carried out the visit to check compliance with requirements made at the last Key Inspection (December 2009) and actions agreed at recent Safeguarding strategy meetings. The previous manager of the Home has not been managing the Home since approximately December 2009 and an acting manager started work at the Home in January 2010. A new deputy manager was appointed in February 2010. In general, during this visit, we found that the acting manager and deputy manager are working well together towards making improvements. Actions agreed at the safeguarding meetings are being worked towards and some have been achieved. The new management team continue to work positively with the Commission and the local authority.
