Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: (1) The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. (2) Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. (3) What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. (4) The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. (5) Relevant information from other organisations. (6) What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) was clear and gave us the information we asked for. It told us what Faro Lodge does well and how they have improved since our last inspection. For example:The staff and management at Faro Lodge respond well to emergencies, which can include breakdowns in families, placements and adult protection referrals and the needs of people with complex needs or challenging behaviour are appropriately met. Support plans are completed for each person who stays at Faro Lodge, which identify and meet ongoing and changing needs. People are supported to maintain contact with their families and risk assessments are undertaken and completed in an empowering and enabling manner. In respect of lifestyle, people are supported to access the community and socialise as they wish and transport is provided. Flexible meal times are promoted and people are encouraged to make their own choices with regard to what they want to eat. The people staying at Faro Lodge are supported to follow their Health Books and health and medication is closely monitored. Good relations have been established with the doctors surgeries and there is good communication between Faro Lodge and individuals care managers, social workers and/or families. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 With regard to concerns, complaints and protection, the AQAA told us that Faro Lodge respond to complaints and follow all the procedures in respect of protecting vulnerable adults and any concerns or incidents of abuse are reported to the Adult Protection Team and the individuals social worker. It was confirmed in the AQAA that two complaints have been received by the service in the last twelve months, both of which were investigated and resolved appropriately. Three safeguarding adults referrals were also made, which were also investigated and referred to the Protection of Vulnerable Adults list. The premises of Faro Lodge are currently being reviewed with a view to being adapted in order to cater better for people with complex needs. The AQAA also told us that Faro Lodge has robust recruitment procedures and staff are thoroughly checked and vetted before starting work. The staffing ratio has recently been increased in order to meet peoples needs with more flexibility and two waking night staff are now provided. No questionnaires had been received by the Commission from staff or service users at the time of completing this Annual Service Review. Meanwhile, the manager continues to let us know of any important issues affecting the service and, from all the information received, we have concluded that Faro Lodge is well managed and continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Under the Care Quality Commissions current inspection frequencies, we must carry out a key inspection within three years of the last key inspection. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
