What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The Annual Quality Assessment Assurance (AQAA) that was sent to us by this service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. Any surveys that have been returned to us from people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service manages any complaints. What the management has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and any results from visits that we may have made to the service in the past twelve months. Relevant information from other organisations. Any information from other people about the service. What has this told us about the service? The manager had completed and returned the AQAA giving us a clear picture of the service offered to the residents living at Fryers Walk. This Manager has been in post for a number of years and is very experienced and knowledgeable. To ensure that peoples concerns, problems, queries and questions are answered the home offers an open door policy at all times. They will act quickly and take all concerns seriously. This is is not only reflected in the AQAA but by a number of staff in the returned questionnaires. Statement such as we have a very good, approachable and active management team who not only understand the needs of the residents but also the staff as well. They tell us regular meetings are held with residents to discuss the issues in the home and that they, the staff, have regular supervisions meetings. The home has its own day centre where many and varied activities take place. Enthusiastic staff work to promote and encourage social activities both in and outside the home to meet the individual needs of each resident. The home has its own IT room with internet access where residents are working with staff on their Person Centred Planning books, listening to music or accessing internet information. The comments received from residents and staff about the activities provided are very positive. One person talks about the pleasure gained from the dance classes, another talks about going out with staff to a club in the evening. The question that asks about choices on the comment survey are answered positively with one person believing that his mental state has improved since coming to live at Fryers Walk as now I am listened to. The AQAA also tells us that due to maternity leave and staff moving away there has been a number of new staff in the building. This has been seen in a positive light with a restructuring of staff deployed in a way that meets the residents needs more Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 appropriately. Staff tell us in the surveys that they are a good cohesive team who work well together. Training is good with all statutory training in place but some specialist training, as mentioned by three staff, could be improved on, to build the skills further of a dedicated workforce. The home has received an award this year for the Active in Bloom competiton and more work is in progress to improve further the grounds around Fryers Walk. The home manager communicates with the Commission and during one of these conversations it was discovered that the home had been caring for a few residents outside of the category of it registration. This was immediately acted upon and the problem addressed and rectified. All notifications received from the home have been appropriate and we have not received any complaints or concerns. In total 7 residents and 13 staff had returned a questionnaire to the Commission and all were very positive about the service provided. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to carry out an Inspection by 19/02/11. However, we may carry out an Inspection at any time if information received gives us concern. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
