We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: 1. The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. 2. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. 3. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. 4. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. 4. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. 5. Relevant information from other organisations. 6. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The feedback from residents who completed our surveys was very positive. They told us that they were very happy with the care and support they received from staff at Gairloch. They said that they enjoyed the meals and considered that the home was always kept fresh and clean. One resident said I feel its as good as my little flat. Another told us Staff care for me and keep me warm and comfortable. I feel safe here and have made new friends. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Staff who responded to our survey were generally very positive about working at Gairlock, although one member of staff considered that staff could work more as a team and another felt the home could employ more reliable staff. Staff told us that they received the training they needed to carry out their role and said that the manager was very supportive. Staff considered that they usually had sufficient staff to meet residents individual needs. One member of staff said that the home cares well for residents and is very friendly. In the AQAA the manager told us that they had a range of methods for gaining feedback from residents and relatives using the service. As a result of feedback the home had purchased larger garden tables allowing more personal space for outdoor activities. The home had taken out a new contract for a fresh water cooling system giving residents access to cold water at all times and encouraging good hydration. The manager also told us that they had introduced new care plans that were more focused on the individual resident and their wishes, needs and abilities in order to encourage more person centred care. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The manager has continued to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. The last inspection report had no requirements. The home demonstrated that they handled complaints well and took prompt action when there were any suspicions of poor practice or suspected abuse. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection in line with regulatory requirements. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
